baddeck ecological centre
my final design project at dalhousie school of architecture.
the overall concept was to build a center near baddeck, cape breton, nova scotia that would focus on seasonal outdoor education, ecological research and indigenous practices.
my approach was to utilize as much local materials as possible, including spruce sapplings, earth construction and rain water catchment systems. the overall goal was to keep a small footprint and create a building/sculpture that was much more forest, and moving away from the industrial complex of contemporary architecture.
architectural model in basswood, red cedar, black walnut and string.
