flesh

in a continuation of my non-studio practice, with a focus on temporal, nomadic and slow performance art work, i created an ephemeral workstation in the main hallway of the visual arts building at the university of victoria, which honoured used paper towels from the men’s bathroom (room a121) in the visual arts building.

a clothesline was setup to hang and dry the paper towels. the towels were then encrusted in pure beeswax. this process fossilized the way that the towel was utilized - how they were scrunched up. these beeswax towels were then used a block printing surface. the result was an imprint of the fleeting function of drying hands on paper towels: the flesh of trees.
