Fraxinus

It's getting late here. I've been pulling some long days lately, and also preparing for a significant art residency and exhibition that my wife and I will be doing in early September. The exhibition will be at la Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario in Sudbury, Ontario. It will be entitled (re)member of water.

Above is a picture of a particularly potent slice of Fraxinus americana that stood out and called to me after I ran it through the thickness planer. To me, there seems to be a being looking up to the sky, to the mystery of it all. This being is not that simple; there are myriad layers inside with many shades and tones. As well, the colours, to a certain degree, flow independently of the grain pattern, suggesting two separate realities or realms.
